WEST HAVEN YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES

The YFS operates as a separate municipal department of the City of West Haven. As an agency, it receives financial assistance from: City of West Haven; State Dept. of Education; Community Development Administration; Dept. of Children & Families; Dept. of Mental Health and Addiction Services. It is mandated to provide services to children from birth to seventeen years of age and their families. These services include, but are not limited to: individual, group and family therapy, positive youth development programs, advocacy for youth and community coordination. The YFS maintains a professional staff, who in addition to providing treatment, also serve on various boards and committees, provide case management and develop and run a number of special programs, ie: parent groups, adolescent groups, family programs, summer activities, etc.

PROJECT “SOFTEN” COUNSELING*

Project SOFTEN is an in-school counseling program providing counseling and assistance to individual students and their families. Support services are targeted at truancy, aggressive/disruptive behavior in the classroom, conflict resolution, difficulty in peer and family relationships and family conflicts (divorce/separation).


FAMILY CLINIC*

The clinic provides therapeutic services to West Haven residents. Services include family therapy, couples therapy, individual therapy, parenting groups and consultation services.
